AW21 STOP! GO! GO SLOW!
Designer Giuliana Leila Raggiani roams through a personal narrative to piece together a fall collection inspired by the idea binding love.
An uncontrollable feeling one feels when it seems like everything is falling apart.
Mismatched stripes and clashing blocks of color create intentional discordance. Zoom out to reveal the bigger picture, and sense the fluidity within the collection's patchwork of influence.
The new collection's palette is highlighted by seasonal NONNA knits in an acidic yellow called 'STARSEED' and a grounding russet, 'MOTHER.'
As in seasons past, Raggiani continues to experiment with new materials, this time incorporating a technical / antibacterial merino wool from Japan into the latest giu giu sport capsule pieces. Geometric designs draw inspiration from winter sports, and the resurgence of cycling in cities worldwide, post-COVID.
A lack of mobility, yet a sense of harmony amidst confusion. Displaced - but not despondent.
"Go Slow," created in collaboration with director Stella Berkofsky, is a short film for giu giu's AW21 collection. Shot in Parc Des Buttes-Chaumont on a brisk Parisian winter morning, the cinematic super 8mm short celebrates the spirit of play and interpretation in movement, within a cast of local models who've just been transplanted into the world of giu giu.
