MAISIE WILEN FALL/WINTER 2022

The Maisie Wilen Fall-Winter 2022 collection will immerse viewers in a first of its kind holographic experience at NYFW powered by Yahoo’s cutting-edge technology providing new and unique portals into the Maisie Wilen collections and creative process.

Presenting the collection holographically is a natural progression of the Maisie Wilen brand, which from the beginning, has always been rooted in digital ideation and design. Seen throughout the collection, optical illusion prints, mattified sequins, and holographic vinyl, play with perception and blur the line between reality and fantasy, to create a wardrobe that is made as much for one’s virtual presence as it is for your real-life self.

Using Yahoo’s volumetric capture technology, the live holographic experience focuses on 7-foot-high surreal projections placed in a gallery setting with corresponding audio experience. Figures are stretched to an imposing seven feet tall, distorting space and form meant to challenge the senses. The model’s actions, ranging from disjointed dances to mocking laughing, provide each look with a fragmented reality that grows increasingly unsettling as the collection progresses.

Each member of the virtual cast will be featured digitally at the show wearing a look from the FW22 collection on a series of cinematic quality projections. This will allow guests to experience the Maisie Wilen’s FW22 collection up-close, fully immersing them in the collection like never before.

The holographic collection can also be experienced at home via Yahoo with one of the highest fidelity available today. To bring the collection to consumers wherever they are, through 3D assets using WebAR that can be accessed using an easy QR code or a simple shareable link that when open on a smartphone directs the user straight into AR that is also fully shoppable and shareable, along with a Gif lookbook featuring 28 pieces of the Maisie Wilen collection.

Utilization of special-effects makeup transforms models into fantastical creatures inspired by Mattel’s Monster High. As some of the most beloved fashion dolls of all time, Monster High characters, serve as a muse for the overall aesthetic of the entire virtual cast. The holograms feature looks inspired by iconic Monster High characters Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Lagoona Blue, and Clawdeen Wolf and can be explored from all angles, placed in your home environment with click-to-purchase capabilities. Combining narrativized movement with unreal appearances, each model is transformed into a ‘monsterfied’ character whose identity is entirely intertwined in their clothing.

Playing with proportion again – this time with real-life application – Maisie Wilen collaborated with Monster High to create one-of-a-kind toyetic skullette hairs clips, coral earrings, sunglasses and skullette earrings featured throughout the show. Inspired by Frankie Stein’s electrifying style, the limited-edition blue skullette earrings with translucent drop-down chains will be available for presale during the NYFW presentation on Mattel Creations. Mattel Creations is the company’s collaboration platform that invites today’s most wildly creative artists to remix Mattel’s iconic toys into entirely new inspired designs.

Also debuting for Fall Winter 2022 is a footwear collaboration with Keds. The collaboration will feature five shoe styles with unique textiles and prints that are signature to the Maisie Wilen brand, such as exaggerated long-pile faux fur, tall cone spikes, and delicate rhinestones. Inspired by Keds’s history as a leading sneaker brand for women, the collection consciously rebukes the oversized dad-shoe trend in favor of feminine styles and slim silhouettes.
The presentation’s fully immersive live aspect serves as a crucial counter to its distinctly digital assets. By highlighting the uncanny tension of physically interacting with a computerized presentation, the show’s format inspects technology’s bleed into everyday life.
