Tara Babylon's 2022 collection is called DJENNA which translates to paradise in Arabic. This work is a fusion of performance, dream and romance with an emphasis on textile, gender fluidity and RTW. Fabric is a key feature in the brand with this collection dedicated to organic, recycled and sustainable materials. This is Tara's first collection to launch shoes which includes a calf length rubber boot made out of recycled car tire. The tire fabric is recycled from American landfills which makes this shoe a contribution to lowering landfills in America.

References for this collection include Marilyn Monroe, James Van Der Zee and 1950’s protective wear wrapped in a blanket of utopian paradise that is Babylon. This collection and the brand ethos centers itself around cross-referencing unassociated visuals and subcultures. It is important for the brand to merge inspirations together that wouldn't normally sit side by side, this is how Tara Babylon artistically designs oneness. Collections are always developed by fabrication and performative photography: this drives shape, silhouette and detail.

Fabrications used in this collection are Eco Elastic, 100% Cotton Jacquard, Recycled and Organic Cottons, Hemp, Silk, Wool, Chiffon, Recycled Car Tire, Latex, Cupro and Faux Leather/Fur. The sublimination of the digital printing is environmentally friendly with eco conscious pigments and inks. The materials in this collection have been carefully picked and sourced from the most effective suppliers all over the world.

This collection is a romantic and wearable approach to the Tara Babylon world.

The back of the dress is straight and sculpts the body with no gather details just a zip closure. Model wears short black square toe boots made from recycled car tyres. This is a unisex jumpsuit with a paradise print knit made of 100% cotton. The model wears a beige cotton silk scarf paired with a black logo web belt. The black shoes featured are made from recycled car tyres.

Beautiful jacquard weave paradise midi dress. This dress has a back zip closure with adjustable webbed straps. The bust area consists of a cotton/silk bra support, with off the shoulder detail. All finished beautifully inside with satin binding. Model pairs dress with lycra gloves in paradise print. Finished with short black boots made of recycled car tire and eco vegan leather.

Model wears a red one of a kind piece. This is a red rose hand-made tufted dress-jacket. This fabric is 100% wool. Outfit is matched with a tufted red rose bucket hat. Under garment worn is a pink 100% chiffon dress-jacket. Model finishes look with a hot pink logo web belt and short pink latex boots.

This pink harness dress is 100% silk with an eco digital print. The dress is worn with a matching dress-jacket made from 100% chiffon that has a front zip closure. This look is matched with a pair of pink Tara Babylon latex rubber boots. These boots have a glossy pvc edging and leather soles.

This is a hand-woven elastic ballgown incorporating safety-pin crochet and eco conscious digital print. The bra and straps are made out of hundreds of safety-pins and elastic which are attached to environmentally friendly vegan leather. The mid section of this dress is hand woven 2mm thick elastic connected with tulle and chiffon binding. The lower dress section is made out of tulle and silk. The model wears matching digital print tulle gloves.

  • Red Bag

    These bags are made from a carefully selected environmentally conscious scratch resistant vegan leather! This is the closest vegan leather you can find resembling real cowhide. All bags have a paradise print silk lining and inner zip pocket. The handle straps come in two sizes as shown on the bag, the long strap is adjustable. These bags come in Red and Black. This material is a non toxic, eco-friendly & healthy PU leather with top properties. DMF free water-based PU (polyurethane) “faux” leather is produced with water-based resin and without solvent. Compared to traditional PU leather, DMF free water based PU leather can reduce the energy consumption in the production process and can also achieve no exhaust fumes and water waste, so it can fully meet the high requirements of environmental protection. DMF free water based PU is also with excellent physical properties like hydrolysis resistance, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance & scratch resistance.

  • Caramel scarf

    These floral fire printed scarfs are made out of 75% cotton and 25% silk. The size of these scarfs are 38" by 38" and they come in Caramel and Pink.

  • Black Car Tire Boots

    These are environmentally conscious square toe boots. This shoe is a calf length black rubber boot made from recycled car tires and an eco PU edge. Tires can exist beyond 60 years sitting in landfills. This particular tire fabric is recycled from American landfills which makes this shoe a contribution to lowering landfills in America. The edging around the shoe is made from an environmentally conscious and scratch resistant vegan leather. This is the closest vegan leather to resemble cowhide. The shoes have a back zip fastening with natural leather soles. The heels measure 3" in height. The vegan leather edging is DMF free water-based PU (polyurethane). This “faux” leather is produced with water-based resin and without solvent. Compared to traditional PU leather, DMF free water based PU leather can reduce the energy consumption in the production process and can also achieve no exhaust fumes and water waste, so it can fully meet the high requirements of environmental protection. DMF free water based PU is also with excellent physical properties like hydrolysis resistance, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance & scratch resistance. Cleaning instructions: PU edging can be cleaned with warm water on a soft cloth or baby wipes. Car tire fabric can be cleaned with a lint roll or warm water on a cloth.

  • Pink Latex Boots

    These calf length pink boots are made out of shiny latex rubber. They have have a square toe with a back fastening zip. Pink pvc edging runs around the edge of the shoe for protection. The soles of these shoes are natural leather and the heels measure 3" in height. For Latex fabric: Keep out of direct sunlight and heat. Perfumes or antiperspirants should not make contact with latex, these products contain a mixture of chemicals that can react with rubber. Store in a dark dry place away from metals. These boots can be stored in a bog or box but should not mix with other colors as this can tarnish the pink. Avoid storing shoes in printed plastic bags as these can bleed onto latex. These boots can be washed with warm water on a soft towel, dust with talcom powder to avoid latex tears and easy foot access.

The edging around the shoe is made from an eco conscious and scratch resistant vegan leather. This is the closest vegan leather to resemble cowhide that has a water based resin supporting environmental protection. Compared to traditional PU leather, DMF free water based PU leather can reduce the energy consumption in the production process and can also achieve no exhaust fumes and water waste. The shoes have a back zip opening and come with natural leather soles. The heels measure 3" in height.

The Process Of The Paradise Dress

Artisanal Textiles

This is a snapshot of the tufted paradise dress in mid production. The labour and hand-work that goes into some of these pieces take up to one month to produce. These hand-made textiles are all made by Tara herself. Here is a clear depiction of the artwork that is being replicated. The print is re-interprated onto cotton fabric with a needle-punch technique. All yarns used here are 100% wool.

This video was shot and made by Steven Baboun @stevenbaboun. This BTS captures the process of the photography and videoshoot for DJENNA 2022. The models were shot on a green screen in preparation for the animated fashion video which was video'd by Marie Vic @_marievic_ and animated by Shayn Jackson @shaynja. This entire photo and video-shoot was a collaborative body of work.
