IMITATION OF CHRIST SPRING/SUMMER 2023
Imitation of Christ’s SS23 collection is designed to disrupt. The collection explores the ever-increasing control of people’s bodies by those in power through visceral imagery and active protest, specifically in response to the overturning of Roe vs Wade.
Since relaunching in 2020, Imitation of Christ has embraced artful expression in many forms, from runway to performance to their most-recent dip into the NFT sphere. Designer Tara Subkoff uses the label to explore activism and social engagement through this expansion of her art practice.
Known for statement-making presentations and creating pieces layered with meaning, this collection continues that tradition by unapologetically bringing attention to the interconnectedness of human rights and political activation.
Upon her inspiration for this collection, designer Tara Subkoff said the following:
“I have had a recurring very visual nightmare since June 2022 when Roe vs Wade was revoked…I had to make art about it and create this image as I am terrified that this is what the future holds for women in this country unless we are able to speak out.”
