The Maisie Wilen Fall/Winter 2023 collection serves as a study between the rudimentary and the pristine. Continuing her study of contemporary digital culture, Schloss looks to uncanny AI imagery and juxtaposes it alongside elementary crafts, highlighting the shared humorously crudeness and absurdity of the highly contrasted mediums.

Prints are a collage of 3D-rendered imagery, hyper-industrial surfaces, abstracted organic textures, and graffiti-like scribbles. Lorem Ipsum-covered separates are paired with a kraft paper tie. A pristine leather handbag printed with unhuman 3D faces is styled with a paper bag dress and rubber band scarf. Schloss references endearing DIY crafts to represent the un-automatable. A dress made of patchworked soccer balls mimics AI’s tendency to glitch, bringing foreign recontextualization to a familiar object. Heavyweight flannels, canvas, and chiffon are cut with zig-zag hems and flowing ruffles bring new dimension to the brand’s signature clean-cut jersey pieces and ultimately present new offerings to compliment the brand’s fan favorites.

By combining mechanical imagery with simplistic, handcrafted elements, Schloss creates a contrast that highlights both the farcicality and the ominous potential of technology. Foreign, uncanny imagery alongside mundane, familiar objects highlights the increasingly intertwined and interdependent nature of these two spheres. Humor and doom are interwoven, creating a mood that is both lighthearted and dark, whimsical and serious.

The lookbook, featuring 26 looks, is set against a soft, hand-painted backdrop and a sleek mirrored floor will be released digitally as part of New York Fashion Week.
