TARA BABYLON - BABYLONIA 2023
This collection looked at hair & cake styles as a form of textile. A signature to the brand is weaving, tufting, elastic and safety pins. Looking at hairstyles & Cake decorations were interpreted into fabrications. Lace being a gentle and delicate fabric contradicts the aesthetic of safety pins and hardware. This contrast feeds into the collection in a playful and fluid way. Whilst decorations used on cakes are only toppings with no story: this is a nod to the toppings we use on ourselves when we dress or style our hair. Presenting and decorating ourselves on the subway, to work or to a party is essentially us decorating our own cake. Linking textures to fabrications is a narrative within Tara's work, all done playfully and in a Tara Babylon way.
