Celebrating 20 years of sustainable design.
The Florence Collection is an exploration of natural silhouettes, movement, and abstract form. Florence’s modern, elevated designs are crafted from lush 100% organic cotton fabrics and feature the luxury details and hand-painted finishes that are synonymous with the Alabama Chanin brand.
The Florence Collection pays homage to Natalie’s 20 years of sustainable, seasonless design and her roots in Florence, Alabama, home to the Alabama Chanin design studio.

Two Decades of Slow Fashion
"Whatever direction Chanin takes, she’ll always come out in the lead. The truth is that the industry is just beginning to wake up to issues this designer, a pioneer of slow fashion, has been addressing for decades." —Laird Borrelli-Persson for VogueView look
Craftmanship and Tradition
"This quiet revolution is also driven by their desire to improve the quality of life for their families and their employees. Slow fashion champions localization and regionalism rather than massification. It honors craftsmanship and respects tradition while embracing modern technology to make production cleaner and more efficient. It’s about treating workers well, Chanin said, and 'buying from the person down the street whose face you know and love.'” —Dana Thomas for The CutView look
Material, Culture, and Community
"A good chunk of Fashionopolis, Dana Thomas’s book on the state of fashion in relation to sustainability, is devoted to Alabama Chanin. The designer and businesswoman looks at the subject from the angles of material, culture, and community." —Vogue, "How the #WFH Movement Could Reshape Fashion"View look
Seasonless And Modern
"Alabama Chanin aims to make 'garments that last forever' and don’t necessarily cater to seasonal trends but flow from season to season. This means a sustainable closet can be built over the course of time and pieces go together regardless of which collection they come from. " —ObserverView look
20 Years of Sustainable Design
"Twenty years later, [Chanin is] still there, an integral part of a community who is working with fashion responsibly and with transparency. She’s also deeply involved in philanthropy. 'I never underestimate the value of this community and of being able to work in a global industry from my small town,' says Chanin. Similarly, Chanin says that “being out of the ‘eye’ of the industry,” has given her the time for 'building organic supply chains, rebuilding manufacturing processes, working on lean-method production, waste reduction, and worker training." —Laird Borrelli-Persson for VogueView look

100% Organic Cotton
Florence, the botanical motif found throughout the Collection, was inspired by a centuries-old technique of capturing natural silhouettes laid upon photosensitive paper. The Florence design is hand-painted using a three-part process developed by the Alabama Chanin design team.
The Stripe design stemmed from Alabama Chanin’s zero-waste mission as a means to repurpose fabric scraps, breathing new life into a byproduct of production. Each stripe is made from remnants of our 100% organic cotton jersey and is hand sewn using the reverse appliqué technique.
