I love the photos of Jane Holzer dancing at the Peppermint Lounge. Researching more, I found
out the Beatles and the Rolling Stones danced there too. I loved that it was so intimate and such a
scene. Whoever was visiting in town and all the cool people were there. That was New York night life. I started to imagine what to wear to the Peppermint Lounge, and this began my Fall 23 collection.
I wanted little dresses to dance in. Peppermint pink and peppermint green become the color
story. Slip dresses in satin or chiffon with lingerie lace trim plus beautiful blouses and bed jackets with the same treatment. I loved the idea of throwing a chunky tweed jacket or coat on top. As a kid one
Halloween I wore my mom’s black lace slip and my faux leopard coat on top. When our bachelor
neighbor asked me, “And what are you dressed as little girl?” I replied, “Elizabeth Taylor in Butterfield Eight!” I had seen an ad of her in her slip and mink coat. My take now includes faux fur jackets and coats in rose pink and pistachio green and the forever favorite leopard worn over little dresses and miniskirts. Another forever favorite: jeweled and studded denim.
Pop prints by Kate Rhees (@katerhees), who I discovered on Instagram, printed on chiffon,
crushed velvet, and lycra for matching tights. Borrowing from my punk Spring 94 collection, metallic faux leather now in pastel pink and mint. Little dresses, lace trim camisoles, and skirts with a fitted double-breasted coat in pastel metallic.
For the year of the rabbit, we revived our “Bunny” hat from my storybook Fall 98 collection,
originally made by James Coviello. Daisy Chains (@daisy__chains) has embellished her medallions with pearls, gold filigree and semi-precious stones. There are John Fluevog metallic cowboy boots and suede biker boots in matching colors. And the pointy toe, bow tied Ficta shoe, perfect to twist in. A crochet hat revived from the Spring 94 collection and a pop flower beanie and scarf to top off some of the looks.
To round out the collection, the evening looks are lurex trimmed and woven with lurex slubby
tweeds. Also, some slinky snakeskin sequin dresses and slips with matching tights. Who doesn’t want to twist the night away at the Peppermint Lounge?
