The Disappearing Suit

The purpose of my thesis collection is to find belief in the intangible value of my work. An intensive research into the theory of value has led me to critically consider the concept of time and how it influences the value we attach to our garments.
How does value arise?
Where does value exist?
Can I be a creator of value?

These abstract questions strongly inform my design practice and led me to discover an ambiguity, or even contradiction, in the relationship between time and value - is longevity the highest achievable value in design? Or is, on the contrary, an ephemeral moment more valuable, since we know it won't last forever?

This thesis collection is based on two main focus areas: Traditional tailoring as well as an experimental textile development. All six looks represent the essence of a traditional tailored suit while each of them undergoes and individual transformation.
I want to capture the invaluable essence of timeless design by manifesting its ephemeral moments and details. Therefore, I have developed a special bio-textile cooked out of water, gelatin and glycerin. This material is 100% biodegradable, which means it would simply "disappear" or dissolve when poured into hot water.

With this collection, I am to critically consider the concepts of longevity vs. ephemerality and therefore suggest an innovative and forward-thinking understanding of a sustainable design approach.
