During research, two specific images from 70’s British punk culture stood out. These images were of Jordan Mooney who was an avatar of Punk culture in the 70’s, and the second image was of Paul Simonon, who was the bassist of The Clash. Both were wearing patched fishnet & crochet pieces in the photographs. Those references plus the Babylon world were the direction for the textiles.

It was important to recreate the energy from these two iconic photos whilst using Tara Babylon techniques. Designing prints that evoke spiky punk culture using fire flames and flowers. The choice of artwork are also a nod to the history of Babylon: paradise & destruction. With these prints we incorporated our iconic carpet coat techniques. This time, sourcing carpet textiles made by artisans in South Asia using ancient weaving techniques. The carpet textile was woven with sustainable wool and eco friendly dyes. We then combined the carpet prints with elastic weave, fishnet and safety pins through collaging. Finally styling the results with pre-owned T-shirts to balance the entire collection out.

Textiles, collage and styling are always a big part of the process in TB collections. This collection is the grunge Babylonia 2023/24. A winter take on the utopian world of Tara Babylon. Continuously driven in creating our version of a ruined ancient world.
