GIU GIU is honored to present our AW22 presentation ‘SAUVAGE'.

This season was inspired by designer Giuliana Leila Raggiani’s visit to her childhood summer home in Cape Cod for the first time in over a decade. Arriving during an off-season at the Cape after a summer spent in the campagne — and being robbed twice — she felt an inner death, a cycle completed. During this time of reflection under a lifted veil, she felt a spiritual reunion with passed ancestors and with her child-self, leading to a deeper appreciation for Mother Earth and natural cycles.

This season’s core colors Mud, Stone + Bone, and various shades of green look to highlight the beauty in decay and death, appreciating what can be seen only when the most vibrant signs of life have completed their cycles: lush greens transforming to dry twigs, the feeling of the self being cradled by and, like a tree, grounded in Mother Earth.
Raggiani imbues preppy Cape cod classics with spiritual pondering and wandering: traditional cable-knits reworked with Serpents to symbolize life and death cycles, cashmere double knit animal jacquard sets suggesting a warm embrace of the inner wild nature of the self. Classic NONNA ribs are screen printed with landscapes of the “secret beach” where Raggiani collected shells with her Nonna, the inspiration behind the brand. Dreamy marbled swirls adorn ivory GIU GIU ribbed knits in a collaboration with KKCO, for animals and humans alike.

“To be with the cycles of the seed means to dance with life, dance with death, dance into life again.” This season’s lookbook experiments with the abandonment of time, asking what can be found in reflections and illusions of lives already lived in order to begin and end over and over again.
