JUNNY® | A Seasonless Collection | Pause;
On a warm summer afternoon, I received a text from a childhood friend that read, “Sister JUNNY, I am in town with the wife; let’s link up!” I was tired, overwhelmed, and emotionally drained. However, he is my best friend, my high school chum, a supporter of my brand, and for the many times I have thought of giving up, he always has the right words to keep me going.
I took a moment to regroup. I texted back, “Yes, BUT only for a moment!”
We meet on a block in Harlem where music is playing on the corner. We embrace.
I relax my bone-weary body; I lean into the embrace. I allow the music to wash over me.
This moment fed my soul. My feelings of panic, fear, and pain, in this moment, washed away in the familiarity of old friends.
His wife joined us. Calmness and beauty radiate from her. We embrace, we laugh, and we catch up. She put her hand on the table, I noticed a semicolon tattooed on her wrist. I know what a semicolon is, but intrigued, I asked her, “what is that?”
She explained that her daughter also has a semicolon tattoo and shared some more personal emotions and insight. The tattoo serves as a reminder for her daughter that she is never alone and is always loved and supported.
I Pause; my mind drifted. Thoughts of my own struggles crystallized in this Pause;
I looked into her eyes, I saw wisdom, I saw resolve. In this Pause; I felt the intensity of a mother’s love; above all else!
