MAMA S/S 2022
MAMA, The collection, represents the cyclical journey through womanhood inspired by the image and imagination of one's mother, the dreams of the adolescent girl, the young woman searching for meaning, and the grown woman being, becoming, liberated and celebrated. The collection is bold, sexy, sensual, intelligent, daring, and eclectic.

MAMA S/S2022
AMJ -her initials tattooed on my arm , written on my soul!!! 1.27.1936 Sunrise 6.7.2006 Sunset My mother Alex Melceta Johnson, never forgotten. She is, and always will be my hero . She was a Single Mom, she raised six children by herself with a little help from her community. As I pondered this Collection, coming out of a global pandemic most of us are forever changed. We must go on, but differently. My Mama, loved her her pink nightgown. Different nightgowns, you could always tell when they were getting some!!! Lol!! ah the slips, ‘good girls’ always wear slips, the lace because I was always a naughty girl. ‘Hard head, soft behind’ my mama used to say!!! They never went outside without a covering over their nightgown. The sexy dresses in decadent silk, soft and fluid, for my Mama. Light caftans, exaggerated sleeves, I honor my Caribbean heritage Decadent capes for that superwoman in all of us. African prints, it’s my heritage. The accessories pieces, a little whimsical touch, just in case you are not fully ready to embrace your inner Joy Goddess . Scarves, silk, colorful, flowing, light, our desire to be free, to spread our wings, it’s in all of us. Gingham, a dual nod to my British Colonial, East Indian Heritage, Madras, a cloth adopted by my birth country, Jamaica, worn in our national costumes. My Mama, My Shero, my community you uplift me. A subtle nod to the Harlem Renaissance; that time of culture and re invention. Women never got their shine back then, beautiful, intelligent, true Renaissance women. Their joy, their pain, their struggle, I wanted to capture it all.
