Katie Gallagher Spring/Summer 2020: "Bath House"
"I have an instinct for finding the
odd location, the
dismissed face, the
eerie atmosphere, the
oppressed mood."
-Deborah Turbeville, 1932-2019
Dreamy, surreal. A hallucination, ethereal and haunting. An homage, inspired by the photography of Deborah Turbeville and Sarah Moon, Katie Gallagher announces her Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
Named after Turbeville's famed fashion photo series, the swimwear-forward collection features a red, black and white color palette with Gallagher's signature safety pin embellishments and bows. Sleek suits paired with flowy, sheer mesh pieces create complex layers and textures, a dreamy blur that is reminiscent of Turbeville's consciously destroyed and reconstructed photographs.
As if taken from another time, the photographic presentation of the collection further illustrates the connection to the works of Turbeville and Moon by utilizing similar techniques and effects. Like their photos, the resulting images reject the conventional fashion shoot and stereotypical beauty that permeates the industry, just as Gallagher avoids the standard conventions of patternmaking and design in her pieces, creating timeless and authentic looks.
"Bath House" is Gallagher's 21st collection.
