the STOLEN GARMENT

Jungwoo Park, a.k.a. Woo Park participated in the 2017 St Martin-in-the-Fields show where he showed his graduation collection again with twelve other graduates. The show, however, took an unexpected turn when one of Woo Park’s exhibited garments was stolen by a trespasser only hours after the show opened. The news spread quickly throughout the community on social media and sparked a city-wide search effort. Soon after, people began to upload photos of a homeless person they spotted walking down the streets of London, wearing the stolen garment. Despite the remarkable discovery and search effort even with the London Police, the garment was never retrieved (London Police crime#65497381/17). This strange turn of events and the search that never reached its end led Woo Park instead to launch his own label to celebrate the ever-ongoing show.

About the Designer

The Stolen Garment launched when Park won second place in 2018 Survival Fashion K following his return to Korea after completing his menswear studies at Central Saint Martins in 2017. Park showcased his 19SS and 19FW collections on the Generation Next stage during Seoul Fashion Week. The two consecutive collections won him a place amongst “Seoul’s 10 Soul,” an annual Seoul Design Foundation award program which selects 10 most promising designers presented in Seoul Fashion Week based on international buyer votes. In addition to operating “the Stolen Garment,” Park also has also been a member of the sibling artist group “Geometric Study.” The annual exhibition/performance of the group has been one of many ways in which the brand has broadened and developed its narrative through artistic collaborations.
